The film Two Criminals offers an unusual and powerful perspective on the crucifixion of Jesus – this time through the eyes of those who are only briefly mentioned in the Bible: the two criminals crucified alongside him. It is a story of grace and redemption, told from a viewpoint that has not yet been captured on film.
The film was directed by Dallas Jenkins, known primarily as the director and creator of the series The Chosen. Interestingly, the character of Jesus is played here by Jonathan Roumie, who viewers also know from The Chosen. One could say that this film heralded the very creation of the series and carries elements that Jenkins later fully developed – an emphasis on personal story, human doubts, and encounters with Christ in places one would least expect.
Two Criminals opens up a profound theme of repentance and God's grace, which can touch even the greatest sinners – even at the last moments of life.
