Christmas movie recommendations on Filmaná ❄️

Experience this Christmas in the company of the Christian streaming platform Filmana. We bring you a summary of movie tips for this year's holiday season.

Merry and Bright

This film is inspired by a true story from World War I. When the fighting broke out in the summer of 1914, it surprised and engulfed millions of men. Christmas came, snow fell, and many packages arrived from families and the army. ❄️ But the surprises on the French, Scottish, and German sides were not waiting inside the gifts. During that Christmas Eve, the unthinkable became reality: soldiers emerged from their trenches, left their rifles behind, and shook hands with their enemies.

At a time when repugnant war conflicts are again flaring up around the world, it is even more important to focus on what God is doing, not His enemy. The film Merry and Bright captures such an event and thus infuses hope into our broken hearts.

The hand-drawn world enhances children's imagination and helps materialize the stories that our children often know only from reading in church.

In the fifth episode, the series transitions into the New Testament and presents the story of the Annunciation, Mary's visit to Elizabeth, the birth of Jesus, the Magi's visit, and the Finding of Jesus in the Temple.

Christmas time is a time when we reflect on our lives. We strive to ensure that our relationships with others are good and full of love. But also for joy to return to our lives and to gain new energy that allows us to shake off life's exhaustion and step into the new year with hope.

Benedictine monk, doctor of theology, and sought-after spiritual guide Anselm Grün is one of today's most successful spiritual authors. The author draws from the spirituality of the desert fathers, the tradition of Western monasticism, and insights from depth psychology.

Even the titles of his books – Depression as an Opportunity, How to Overcome Conflicts, Time Management as a Spiritual Task, etc. suggest that he addresses the questions that today's people ask and that he has something to offer us for the Christmas time and the new year - hope. ✨

Silent Night

The story of the most popular Christmas carol of all time. In 1818, Joseph Mohr was sent as a chaplain to Oberndorf, a small Austrian town near Salzburg. Joseph is a young man full of ideas and ideals. His passion to bring the church closer to ordinary people, however, clashes with his superior, priest Nöstler.

When Mohr organizes a church choir that includes vagrants from the city's underclass, who sing in German instead of Latin, Nöstler threatens to punish him with disciplinary measures. Their dispute escalates further when Maria, a regular visitor to the inn, joins the previously all-male choir.

Mohr's initial successes begin to crumble, his efforts turn against him, and he loses all hope while facing a test of faith. The night before Christmas,
Mohr must decide whether to accept defeat and leave Oberndorf or to uphold his faith and strive to fulfill the meaning of the holy night.

The film, based on true events, opens up themes such as the value of a person, indifference to injustice, and an individual's effort to change the world for the better.
