In a small French town lives a young widow, Barny, with her daughter France. Barny is a convinced communist and atheist, and one day she goes to church to confront her life stance with the views of the church. However, she encounters a young handsome priest played by J. P. Belmondo, who accepts her criticism.
Barny is surprised by his welcoming attitude, and then she begins to be enchanted by his moral strength... The story interestingly depicts the significant transformation of a young woman's personality and the great test of willpower of a young man who has decided to dedicate himself entirely to God.
